This week Chad and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary. Chad sent beautiful tulips from Holland. At our wedding reception I gave out tulip bulbs wrapped in tulle as the favor. Chad must imagine me to be a princess, since he enjoys giving me very nice jewelry. This year he added a beautiful gemstone bracelet from Tiffany and Company. I told the kids the box with the name 'Tiffany's' on it was probably more sought after than the jewelry. The bracelet is an original Paloma Picasso bead bracelet with peach moonstone, rhodochrosite and rose quartz beads.
Peach Moonstone
The gem known as moonstone is largely composed of orthoclase. Which is also known as feldspar, the most common mineral in the Earth's crust, and a component of Granite.
Rhodochrosite MnCO3
- manganese carbonate The streak is white. Its Mohs hardness varies between 3.5 and 4. Its specific gravity is 3.5 to 3.7. It crystallizes in the trigonal system. The cleavage is typical rhombohedral carbonate cleavage in three directions. Its main use is as an ore of manganese which is a key component of stainless steel formulations and certain aluminium alloys. Due to its being relatively soft, and having perfect cleaveage, it is very difficult to cut, and therefore rarely found faceted in jewelry.
Quartz is the second-most-abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust, after feldspar. Sio4 silicon–oxygen tetrahedra, It is a semi-precious gemstone. Varieties of quartz have been since antiquity the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hardstone carvings. Rose quartz is a type of quartz which exhibits a pale pink to rose red hue. The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese, in the massive material.
I know Chad gave me the bracelet as a romantic present, but I just had to look it up and find information on the gems. I can enjoy it so much more knowing their names, what they are made of, and what part of the Earth they were mined. It just happens that we are studying rocks and minerals right now. The kids just wrote reports on feldspar and quartz.
As a tradition, the girls and I take out my wedding dress every year and take turns trying it on. Some years I am very pregnant and can't get it up past my knees. On years like this one it fit just right.
My dupioni silk wedding dress. I never imagined my teenage daughters would help me with the buttons.
I am wearing my pearls from a past present, and holding my Tiffany's box from this year's gift.
Our princess Emily.
Sweet Hannah!
Darling Katie!
Friday was also report card day. For every outstanding the kids received, they were given a Chuck-e-cheese token. Braden was unsure at the beginning but he warmed up quickly to all the excitement.
Gavin and David played skeet.
Katie made lots of friends in the tube.
I think the bike is Hannah's favorite ride.
Jessica, Emily, and Spencer played air hockey.
We relaxed for an hour and had a good time, then we went back to our books and studying.
Scripture studying in our house is ....well, should I just say... a circus.
The boys did a pile up... until the little guy on top decided to hold on to his brother with his teeth.
David came running to me crying. Braden quickly followed with a hug and smile.
Then the hug turned into a wrestle.
Braden won.
