We made two trips to Raleigh this week. On Thursday, Jessica and Emily went to a CES fireside to learn about BYU. As I sat next to my two highschool students, I was waiting for someone to pinch me and say it was just a dream. My children can't be this old already.
Two days later, we came again for a temple trip.
We made awesome time with Spencer driving. He drives just like his father.
We all agreed the afternoon went by two quickly. If only we could have stayed a few more hours.
General Conference Weekend
We look forward to this weekend all year. We talk about and prepare for it. The kids were so excited. Then, 10 minutes into the first session, one of the kids says, "How long is this going to be?" He had that tone of voice that told me I needed to intervene quickly or I was going to lose him. My brain kicked it into high gear and I sent him on a scavenger hunt: plain paper, pencils, markers. I went to the freezer to retrieve the hidden stash of candy corn. I quickly made up several tic tac toe boards with gospel words in each space. When the kids heard a word such as faith or repentance they put an x on it. When they had three x's in a row they got to come get a piece of candy from the bowl. They filled in board after board. By the second session they were making their own boards. By the third session they knew which words were used the most often and could get a tic tac toe from almost any sentence that was spoken. By the fourth session the candy was put away and everyone was quietly listening.
The kids posed for these pictures all by themselves. Can't you just feel the love and peace?
Emily made a fabulous apple pie that we ate with apple cider during the break.
The Photo Shoot
While I was out one day this week the Hannah set up a photo studio and had class picture day.

Braden has always had a beautiful smile for the camera.
But something happened this week. He started posing whenever he saw the camera. His new smile is...
He scrunches up his nose, squints his eyes, and waits for the picture to be taken.
The face is pretty funny looking, but the little boy who understands he is posing for the camera is darling.
